Background: This off-grid cabin was handcrafted by a custom stone-mason decades ago. The hand-placed stone foundation and cedar shake construction of this cabin has stood the test of time. We attribute this longevity to the proper maintenance schedules the owner's have adhered to for years.

Process: We started this project the same way that we we always do... Cleaning, which, in this case, had to be done by hand because there wasn't a water spout or outlet to be found for miles. After the cabin was scrubbed of all dust and debris, we masked all of the windows and glass to avoid any stain over-spray or drips. We fired up our gas generator and got to work. It was necessary to apply multiple coats of penetrating stain to the south and west sides to achieve a rich and uniform appearance. We also applied an oil-based shingle treatment to cedar shakes on the roof to ensure they were sealed and protected from the wet conditions they endure throughout the year. We finished the job by conducting a thorough cleaning of the work area before hiking our equipment back to the trucks.
